Educators in the Lawton Public Schools (LPS) district have made it their mission to prepare students for life. To achieve that goal, area schools help set students on the pathways to “college, career, military, or trade” by offering a range of courses and training opportunities.
Our public schools ready students for college or careers and have developed initiatives to encourage pathways to math, science, engineering, and technology (STEM). Lawton Public School’s Eisenhower High School partnered with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) in 2011. Two years later, the school was named National NMSI School of the Year because of progress made in the Advancement Placement program. Lawton is known as Oklahoma’s STEM City, a collaboration among schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Schools also tout outstanding arts, special needs, and academic programs, including advanced placement classes and concurrent enrollment courses.
LPS works with community partners to develop practical and innovative learning opportunities. The district is fortunate to offer Lawton Public Schools courses through the new Life Ready Center. The center is a collaborative partnership between the public schools, Cameron University, and Great Plains Technology Center. Students throughout the district can choose from a variety of courses—from AP and concurrent enrollment to technology, trade, skills, arts, and more.
Lawton Public Schools prepares students for careers by connecting education to the workforce through internships. These experiences provide hands-on learning, helping students apply their high school knowledge, understand the relevance of their skills, and develop essential workplace competencies like teamwork and meeting deadlines. Internships also promote rigor, relevance, and relationships. and results in education.
